Improving Personal Effectiveness

Everyday we interact in some ways with other people, we do not live alone in this world. Whether or not such interactions can be fully effective for all sides depend on the manner, clarity and fairness which we present our point of view. Positive personal effectiveness begins naturally since we were born. Generally, there are nine powerful People-Skills which already exist within us in varying degrees : Personal Ethic, Adaptability, Tact, Credibility, Intercommunication, Persuasiveness, Objectivity, Initiative and Self-discipline. Although there is some overlap among these people-skills     ( for example – tact, intercommunication and persuasiveness ), each is treated as an entity itself.

These nine people-skills are as a guide to realize and reinforce our own capabilities in interpersonal encounter with other people. Positive personal effectiveness is achieved whenever we can ethically earn ( reciprocal ) Confidence, Respect and Cooperation in our dealings with other people. It is a vital key to Leadership which is very important in many aspects and directions of our life.

Our intention is to create an atmosphere where decisions and agreements can be reached in a mutual and successful harmony so that information, directions and instruction can be given or received constructively ( secara membina ) resulting in job well done and all parties are satisfied with the results. A person who goes through this successful action will continually gain self-assurance, towards attaining peak Personal Effectiveness within his natural capability.

Relate these nine powerful people-skills for Positive Personal Effectiveness to your own experience and situation. Focus to strengthen some of them and develop some through continued effort and concentrated practice:

1. Personal Ethic : The Practice of the Golden Rule

2. Adaptability  : Adjusting to Changing Circumstances ( Ourselves, Others and Environments )

3. Tact : Sensitivity to Others’ Perceptions.

4. Credibilty : Earning Trust and Confidence

5.  Inter-communication – Dynamic Expression

6. Persuasiveness : Convincing with Credibility

7. Objectivity : An Unbiased Perspective to achieve fair, impartial and substantive true conclusion

8. Initiative : Getting a Head start

9. Self-Dicipline – The Hall Mark of True Leader
